Historic Blue Ridge
Blue Ridge came into being in 1887 when the Marietta and Northern Railroad set down a line in Fannin County. Not wanting to course it through the county seat, Morganton, the railroad chose another site and on that site would spring the town of Blue Ridge, which became the county seat in 1895.
Like most railroad towns throughout history, the iron horse brought prosperity to Blue Ridge and made Blue Ridge, GA real estate the next hottest investment. It was the area's own appeal, however, that kept people coming through the years.
The gorgeous mountain scenery and pure mineral waters attracted well-heeled folk from the cities who raved about the town's healthful charms. Blue Ridge GA Mountain Homes became a health resort and, up to today, most people come here for the same reasons - not exactly to get well per se, but to feel well. After all, it's hard for your spirits not to rise when you're breathing in fresh mountain air and looking out at god's own country.
Remnants of Blue Ridge's past live on to the present. The town is home to three of the Fannin County structures that are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Blue Ridge Depot is still standing and is now the starting point of the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, a 26-mile-long round trip which is like a train tour of the area. Other historic structures are the Fannin County Courthouse (now home of the Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Association) and the Baugh House.
